A soup for your hay-fever

A soothing and effective Chinese medicine recipe for hay fever is Pear and Ginger Soup. Pears are known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for their ability to moisten the lungs and soothe dryness, while ginger can help to warm the body and dispel wind-cold, which is often associated with hay fever symptoms.

Pear and Ginger Soup Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 2 ripe pears (Asian pears work well)

  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger (about 1-2 inches), sliced

  • 1 tablespoon goji berries (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)

  • 4 cups of water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Peel and core the pears, then cut them into quarters. Slice the ginger thinly.

  2. Simmer the Soup: In a pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the pears and ginger slices. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes until the pears are soft.

  3. Add Goji Berries (Optional): If using goji berries, add them in the last 10 minutes of cooking.

  4. Sweeten (Optional): Once the soup is ready, you can stir in honey to taste, depending on your preference.

  5. Serve: Enjoy the soup warm. It’s gentle on the body and can be consumed daily during hay fever season.

This soup helps to clear heat, moisten dryness, and soothe the lungs, which can alleviate hay fever symptoms like dry cough, itchy throat, and nasal congestion.
